One hundred years ago, the First World War was destroying Europe, the Russian Revolution was imminent - and Rosa Luxemburg was fighting for a peaceful, fairer world. As an extraordinarily clear-sighted analyst of social conditions, she made people aware of the serious gap between rich and poor, spoke of a "war economy" in the interests of capital and of "opinion manipulation". Her goal was an anti-capitalist and free society. Her name is well known, but what did she stand for?

Rosa - Trotz alledem is an artistic positioning of one's own actions, explores the power relations of our time and poses the question of alternatives with Rosa Luxemburg.

The play was invited to tour Brazil in 2019 to Sao Paulo/ Porto Alegre/ Rio de Janeiro/ Salvador (Bahia) in collaboration with the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung and the Goethe-Institut.

From the press

Until the end of last week, "Rosa - Trotz alledem", a theatre project by Anja Panse, ran at Berlin's Theater unterm Dach. The premiere was in June. Hopefully it will continue in other places. They've already been to Cottbus. For me, it's one of the most remarkable plays I've seen in recent years.

Director Anja Panse is very familiar with Rosa Luxemburg's politics and life, knows how to stage it in an exciting way and also how to actualise it without it seeming flat. She uses elements of magical realism such as dream and association sequences, which lend the play depth.

What makes the Anja Panse production so exciting? Every single link in the sequence of scenes is full of nuances. In addition to the rational moments, there are equally sensual ones. Many young people watched and applauded.

Neues Deutschland, Stefan Amzoll 11.9. 2017

In Susanne Jansen, writer and director Anja Panse found an actress for her project "Rosa - Trotz alledem" who was able to get very close not only to Rosa Luxemburg's outward appearance, but also to her thinking and innermost nature: she was convincing and moving and knew how to reveal the deeper meaning of the sentence that has been much quoted, much misused and often taken out of context: "Freedom is always the freedom of those who think differently."

The rows were filled to the last seat, the applause was long and grateful.

Neues Deutschland, Walter Kaufmann, 31.1. 2018

I have to say, it was a powerful piece of theatre that was performed at the Dieselkraftwerk on Thursday evening. A real evening of theatre that clearly took a stand. You have to call it subversive in the most blatant way what took place in the Cottbus art collection on this autumn evening. This left-wing troupe created a worthy, well-deserved monument to one of the most important women in world history.

This evening was a courageous call to look for alternatives to capitalism, to see through it and consequently to fight it. The audience is encouraged to fall for sensible ideals and to become active in retrospect, not to surrender despite of all.
